Welcome to the De La Salle Home Economics Site!
Home Economics arrived in De La Salle in 2007. A brand new HE room was built with a technician's room and a small multi purpose classroom with 10 computers. Home Economics is a practical subject. You will study 3 main areas:
Most classes will cook every other week. You are expected to pay £1 per practical for the ingredients we provide. You also need to bring your HE apron with you to class. These are on sale for £4 from the Home Economics department. These should last for your first three years at De La Salle.
In this site you will find all the recipes we cook throughout the year. Simply click on your year group at the top of the page and the link will take you to a list of recipes planned for this year. Eventually I hope to have homework sheets and other information that you can access at home. I would welcome any ideas for my web page - maybe even a way you can rate the recipes!

What's going on?
GCSE practicals at the start of February were a great success. The boys had to cook between 3 and 5 dishes in 2 hours! I'm pleased to say that all the boys achieved very high marks. They produced very high standard food and there were no disasters. Congratulations to them all.
Year 13 and 14 took pupils from Knockevin to McDonald's and the cinema. They had a great time - thanks to everyone for buying buns and cake pops to raise the money for this.
Summer exams are coming up. Look for your revision list on your year group page.

Cookery Demonstration
Patricia McClean from the Livestock and Meat Commission visited our school in October. Patricia was here to demonstrate meat dishes to our Year 11 Hospitality class and Year 14 students. First of all, mozzerella meatballs were made with noodles. They were delicious and a big hit in the HE classroom. Next, Patricia made peppered beef and served it on a bed of rice. All the boys got to sample these dishes and devoured them both!
A big thank you to Patricia (and the Livestock and Meat Commission) for an interesting and informative session. Many of our boys won a memory stick for correct answers on beef and its nutritional value. Well done boys!
